I’ll admit it: Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday. I love everything about it from the gorgeous palette of reds and pinks, the heart-shaped boxes of candy,  to the collective permission to express love openly and abundantly. But somewhere along the way, our culture has narrowed the definition of this beautiful holiday, insisting that it’s exclusively for romantic couples.

Valentine’s Day arrives each February wrapped in red hearts and romantic expectations, but somewhere along the way, we’ve forgotten an essential truth: love doesn’t require a plus-one. For the millions celebrating February 14th without a romantic partner, this holiday can feel like a painful reminder of what’s missing. But what if we’ve been looking at it all wrong?

The Cultural Pressure Trap

Our culture has built an entire industry around the idea that Valentine’s Day is exclusively for couples. The restaurant reservations, the chocolate hearts, the jewelry commercials, they all tell the same story: your worth is tied to whether someone else has chosen to love you. Write down three things you genuinely appreciate about who you are and who you’re becoming.
