Winter Park’s Wellness Cafe, New General, Is Worth A Visit.
In the heart of downtown Winter Park, there is a health-conscious eatery named New General Cafe. There are countless cafes all over Orlando that craft their own beverages, but when it comes to the food, forget it. Most cafes end up outsourcing their food options, and that’s no good. I would much rather dine at a cafe where the food is made from scratch; that is a place I don’t mind supporting for nothing, but the best at that is New General Cafe.
One of my favorite menu items at New General is the breakfast burrito, a savory goodness. One thing to note about me when it comes to food in general is my love for avocado. I don’t think there is a cap for me when it comes to avocado. And by the way, no matter where I am dining, please don’t skimp on my avocado; I want all the good fat I can get. To note, I have never had that issue at New General; they are especially generous about serving anything with avocado. I never feel like I’m not getting enough or that they’re not giving me my fair share. The spicy aioli sauce adds that little extra flavor and spicy kick that completes the burrito. I am definitely a sauce head. I don’t like any dry food; give me some sauce, I am in heaven, and in fact, the more the sauce, the better. I am not sure if there is a limit to how much sauce one can add to a sandwich, burrito, or wrap; I want it all. The great thing is that at New General, everything is fresh and has no additives, so there is nothing I have to worry about. The feeling of dining at a cafe without worrying whether something is healthy is freedom. I wish this health-forward cafe experience existed at every cafe across America, but it doesn’t, and that’s why New General exists—as a safe place for us wellness warriors to live our best lives.
The ambiance at New General is unique and modern; the cafe has the perfect lighting not too bright and not too dark. Plus, as I wait for my fresh food to arrive at the table, I enjoy looking over all the carefully crafted items available for purchase. I have spotted hand soap, dish soap, coffee, granola, nut butters, and other high-quality goods that I want to take home. I can always appreciate a well-curated shop with goods that were not mass-produced but made in small batches.
Typically, my beverage of choice at New General is a delicious matcha latte. I’ve noticed the baristas at New General do take their time when making their beverages. There is a lot of love and care that goes into crafting their very tasty drinks, which is why I keep coming back for more each time. My steamed milk of choice for my latte is typically a plant-based option, a little lighter on the tummy and still just as tasty.
